IPAF Push Around Vertical (PAV)

Course Overview

The IPAF Push Around Vertical Course (PAV) is designed to instruct an operator to prepare and safely operate various types of these machines. The PAVs are small and simple vertical lifting machines used within the workplace.

Course Objectives

The objectives of the IPAF Push Around Vertical course are;

  • Awareness of the relevant health and safety regulations
  • to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Awareness of the need to refer to the machine operating manual

Course Agenda

The structure of the IPAF Push Around Vertical course is as follows;

  • Legislation, including; Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, LOLER, Working at Height Regulations, RIDDOR, Fall Protection in Mobile Elevated Working Platforms.
  • Pre-use inspections / handovers; thorough examinations, familiarizations, pre-use inspection; identify safety items and controls, defects and emergency descents.
  • The Do’s and Don’ts for safe operating methods and hazards.
  • The practical training will include; an introduction to the machine, identification of the major components, pre-use checks and inspections, starting & stopping the machine, pre-use function checks, planning the route, travelling the route and maneuvering the machine, setting up the machine for work, basic operational practice, typical work applications and parking the machine.

The course is suitable for any work employee that will be operating a push around vertical (PAV).

How is this course assessed?

The course is assessed using both theory and practical assessments.


Once the candidate has successfully complete the course they will receive a PAL card and a certificate.
